at Cory's Kitchen

How Can You Participate?

  1. Client / Student
    • a. Simply show up at any of our locations during their normal hours of operation. Students must register at this time for up-coming classes. You must bring a driver’s license or current photo ID which has your current address on it. If you don’t have a current one, we need some sort of picture ID and proof of residence (such as a utility bill). This is used solely to identify you for future food pick-ups and to get you started on any of the programs we have available for you. This information is never shared with anyone outside of Cory’s Kitchen. You must have your own transportation and be prepared to take home a typical delivery of food items, usually consisting of 3-5 bags and several dessert items, such as cakes, pies, etc.
    • b. You will be registered into our computer system. You will have an opportunity to speak with a counselor to find out just what services are available to you. Since we are a Christian organization, you will have an opportunity (should you so desire) to hear our message of faith and hope through Jesus Christ. We will make any appointments for interviews, or further counseling that you choose to take advantage of, and finally, you will receive your food. The entire process takes about 30 - 45 minutes, depending on the number of people that come for help that day.
    • c. After your initial visit, you may return once per calendar month to receive food, training, and counseling for 6 months. Should you be on any government assisted program where you receive funding of some sort, we will extend your 6 months for as long as is necessary. Each case is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  2. Volunteer
    • a. There are a number of jobs available for volunteers such as Repackaging/Transporting Food, Counseling/Teaching, Office Staff, or Coordinating/Facilitating. Each of these jobs has particular requirements and I will personally discuss your qualifications with you.
    • b. Volunteers are asked to show up on distribution day 1 hour early to assist with preparation. You need not commit to an extended period of time, but I would appreciate a visit from you prior to making any decision. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at what you find going on here at Cory's Kitchen. I have one volunteer that, in our first 13 years of operations, didn't miss a day. Her reason for staying so long? 'I liked the idea that there was no long-term commitment to joining Cory's Kitchen.
  3. Private Donor
    • Cory’s Kitchen does not receive regular funding from any charity, government, or endowment organization. While it’s not cheap to supply everything we do, we have existed solely on the generous donations of individuals like yourself. 100% of your donation will be used to help someone get back on their feet. It will be used to feed, clothe, and train people for new jobs. You will be making an immeasurable difference in someone's life.
    • As a non-profit charitable organization, any donations you make to Cory’s Kitchen, Inc. are completely tax-deductible. Each year, by January 31, you will be supplied with a letter outlining your donation history for the previous year. Check with your tax preparation agent. You will be surprised at just how much this will lower your yearly income tax bracket.
    • There are several ways that you can donate to Cory’s Kitchen:
        • You can donate time as a volunteer, serving at one of our distribution centers, picking up groceries, or becoming one of our client hosts.
        • Pray for the continued success of Cory’s Kitchen and to the successful placement of our clients back into the mainstream. Pray for our volunteers and their health, motivation, and spiritual discernment. Pray for our clients and their families that with God's help, we may be able to reach them with the Gospel.
        • You may also donate a car, RV, Truck, or boat through Cars 4 Causes to benefit Cory's Kitchen. Simply call and tell them what you would like to donate. They handle all the paperwork. They pick up your vehicle, whether it is registered or not, and no matter what condition it is in. Cory's Kitchen receives the finances from the sale of your vehicle, you receive a tax break, and people get ministered to. Everyone wins.
        • Finally, the easiest way is to write a check and mail it to our corporate office at:

        Cory’s Kitchen, Inc.
        1418 Arrow Hwy,
        Irwindale , CA 91706

        • We appreciate your cash donation far more than donations of food or clothing, simply because we can control our inventory much more easily. Additionally, we can usually purchase any food we distribute for about 10% of the cost that you would incur. Your donation goes much further that way, and we can target it where the need is the greatest at any given time
        • As with any worthwhile venture, there are costs associated with running any business. Our needs are simple. Our only costs are for food and for transportation for pickup of donated items. We have a proven track record of being self-supporting over 13 years. And we are making a difference in the lives of thousands of people, just like you, who need an occasional helping hand. 4. Corporate Donor
    • Cory’s Kitchen does not receive regular funding from any charity, government, or endowment organization. We have existed solely on the generous donations of individuals and corporations like yours. As an example a New York fashion designer recently donated 100 designer dresses for our clients. Still another is Howard's Appliances who gave us a substantial price break on our refrigerators and freezers.
    • As a non-profit charitable organization, any donations you make to Cory's Kitchen, Inc. are completely tax deductible. Each year, by January 31, you will receive a letter outlining your donation history for the previous year. As many forward thinking corporations have a procedure already in place for corporate donations, we at Cory's Kitchen would greatly appreciate an opportunity to talk with your representative regarding our eligibility to participate.
    • Corporations like yours are in a unique position to benefit both your own organization as well as ours. Many of the corporations working with us come to us for workers. We have placed many of our clients into jobs at several organizations which support us. Quality Materials Handling is one of our more aggressive recruiters. They are very excited about giving someone a chance to turn their lives around in spite of a failing economy. They enhance their much needed labor force, and one of our clients no longer has to come to us for our services.
        • The Fresh and Easy food chain, Albertsons, Ralphs, and WalMart have all been working with us for years. Since there are State and Federal regulations in place regarding the shelf-life of baked goods, they have to dispose of much of their high-quality food items 2-3 days prior to their expiration date. Rather than waste this valuable resource, they donate it to us. Our drivers pick up these baked goods, put them in our freezers and we distribute it to the needy on the following day. They get a tax break, they don't have to haul their baked goods to the dumpster, and hungry people get food... everybody wins.
        • Another example is Avon cosmetics. We receive much of their close-out items which are packed into gift boxes. We give these out particularly around Mother's Day, Christmas, or even when one of our clients tells us that there is a birthday coming up. Imagine how it makes someone feel who is out of a job and yet can still give a gift to a loved one. That is where you help us the most.
    • Because of our corporate sponsors, we have been able to keep our expenses to a minimum. The food items you supply are all directly passed on to our clients. None of it is used by or passed on to any of our staff within Cory's Kitchen (unless, of course, they are also clients). Because of this, our operations costs are kept at a minimum. For a charitable organization, this is a must.
    • As with any worthwhile venture, there are costs associated with running a business. Our needs are simple. We have a proven track record of being self-supporting for over 13 years. Each year we have run in the black. I attribute that success rate to our corporate sponsors. Join a team that is having a positive impact on your community.
